Golden Huntress
An Accidental Superhero
Cheryl Ann Guido
When you think of the word superhero, some pretty big names come to mind. I'm not one of them. In fact, I don't even know any of them although I think it would be pretty darn cool to sit down and have a cup of coffee with one or better yet, go on a super duper epic type adventure someday. Each of those famous people have a superpower or two. Some got theirs after traumatic events or when a weird oopsie happened. I’m not one of them. A couple were born divine. I'm not one of them either. My powers came out of the birth canal along with tiny me. They weren't anything unusual. Everyone on my home world had them. My extra abilities were genetic. Honing those powers was part of our heritage, training and culture. On my world, I never gave them a second thought. It was only after I came to Earth that people said I was special.
The other big names save the world every day. My focus is and always has been to make my city a safe place to live. A simple goal, no? Well, let me tell you, it's not so simple. But just because I don't go around doing good deeds on a global scale, it does not mean I'm any less of a superhero than the others. In fact, the citizens of my city think I'm the best thing since sliced toast. Yeah.
When I first came to Earth, I never planned to be a hero. In fact, all I wanted to do was to blend in, to simply be an ordinary Earthling and live out my life in anonymous bliss. However, all things happen for a reason and one day, through no fault of my own, my quiet private life turned into a hotbed of publicly celebrated daily heroism. Believe me, I know exactly why so many of the other superheroes have secret identities. Being super is both a gift and a curse. It definitely isn't for the faint hearted. I never planned to be a superhero but here I am. My name is Astrea An. I am called the Golden Huntress and this is my story.
